C'MON CLINT!

Post by intomidator »

Just 2 more chances to make the playoffs. GITTER-DONE!

What a great turnaround from 2016. Yet, even though Clint is 10th (compared to 26th at this time last year) in the regular season points (234 more than last season (2017: 42, 2016: 408)) he's STILL not in the Sweet 16 bracket.

"Clint Bowyer – Stewart Haas Racing #14 Ford

Being the first driver outside the play off bubble looking in, Clint Bowyer has the least to lose of the driver listed so far.

He knows exactly what, realistically, he needs to do to make it in – win!

Barring an unexpected pair of unmitigated disasters from one or two of the drivers above him, partnered by a pair of top five finishes for himself, there is little chance of the popular driver pointing his way in.

In some ways that makes Bowyer more dangerous than ever. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain from putting the pedal down and just going all in of the win.

His gung-ho approach will make other drivers wary of him, as they will surely be aware that he is driving with only one goal, that being taking the checkered flag.

He certainly has the machinery available to do it, with the Ford engines looking stronger as the season goes on, and the early season struggles of the team to get to grips with the new manufacturer on board seemingly behind them.

He is definitely an outsider to make it, but he will definitely be fun to watch as he tries."

Bowyer's playoff hopes come down to Richmond after Darlington DNF

By: Jim Utter, NASCAR Editor

Clint Bowyer’s NASCAR playoff hopes now rest squarely on his performance in one race.

That’s the bad news as Bowyer’s last-place finish in Sunday night’s Southern 500 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway ended any chance he has of making the 16-driver Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff field by points alone.

The good news? Bowyer needs a win in the regular season finale next weekend at Richmond (Va.) Raceway, but it’s a track where he’s earned two of his eight career series victories.

“You come to all these race tracks with an urgency to win, just like we did at the Daytona 500,” Bowyer said. “Richmond is a good track for us. We’ll go there and do the best we can.”

Bowyer was running a Carolina Ford Dealers paint scheme on his No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford as part of Darlington’s “Throwback” weekend but didn’t get to spend much time on the track.

Bowyer started 16th but as during the race’s second caution, his No. 14 Ford sat on pit road with smoke pouring from under the hood.

As it turned out, Bowyer’s engine had suffered a broken valve, bringing an early end to his race.

“It just blew up. It’s a pretty inopportune time to have it happen, but it’s never a good time,” Bowyer said. “Doug Yates and all the guys over at his shop do such a good of bringing us reliable, good horsepower and it was just my time.

“It was my turn and there isn’t much you can do about it.”

Sunday was the third time this season Bowyer has failed to finish a race. He has finished second three times this season but had led just 22 laps in 25 races.

Even with his precarious position in the series standings, Bowyer remained resilient.

“Obviously, the way the playoffs look right now, we’re not out of this thing. We’ve still got a good race track coming up for us,” he said. “We’ll just go there and do the best we can and put all the cards on the table over there.”

I love his attitude...

2 wins, 4 top fives and 12 top tens at Richmond.

The potential is certainly there and the #14 SHR Ford is arguably the best ride he's ever had.
