Re: Official Garage Gang Hangout Raceday Points Club II
While our neighbors were shivering and eating cold food, Mom and I decided we should eat the best stuff in our big freezer. We had ribeye steaks and T-bones galore. ...and if you have a casserole dish that fits inside a Dutch oven....miracles can happen!!!!
The reason we had installed the woodstove was because the price of natural gas had risen significantly and Dad was tight with his money.
My folks had looked to the "Farmer's Almanac" and foresaw the need for a woodstove. There weren't no internet back then.
Aahhh, the good old days!

As it turns out there is one in NH, a few in MA, and three others here in ME. These round ice disks are formed near where two rivers come together and have a strong current. They are fairly thin and not safe to walk on as they are about one inch thick or less.

As a result of that freezing rain event, millions of trees were destroyed and millions more forever disfigured. Every tall pine, over 80 feet tall has a kink in the middle of it.

In 1989, hurricane Hugo came to visit. We were without power for three days. Six months later I had to deliver building materials to the Charleston, SC area. Driving down I-26 everything looked fine until I crossed I-95. From there on out, all I saw was mile after mile of downed Pine trees! At Shaw AFB, near Sumter, SC, their weather station had recorded wind up to 165mph about the time the wind gauge broke! My poor Brother lived about 30 miles from there. His power wasn't restored for 8 days. Me and my parents had our lights on after 4 days. I lived a mile or so from them at that time.

We ended chipping many branches and whatever trees that could be. What trees could be cut down were and hauled off to the mill while some were taken to local churches that supply to their communities and they would have the community come in to have a work day where these trees cut up to stove length and then split to dry out. The logging trucks would bring them in with no branches on them so that would make the job so much easier to deal with and the church had the right to say or no if they wanted the load and our church was one of those that said yes to about three or four loads at the time and it had to be all hard wood, no pine. Logging companies had problems with that because it meant that they could run longer and take more to the mill later and clear more from the roads.
Seemed like every town had at least one or two churches that did this type of thing. Then you had the businesses willing to pay for hardwood who were in the firewood business that would pay for the logging truck load at dirt cheap prices because of storms like this. Sometimes things like this have a benefit to the community and it lowers the prices of firewood for the next season or two.

awsum14 sent me a PM that after viewing new posts, they are still showing up as unread. I saw it a couple of times, but it seems to have straightened out for me now.
Is that the problem you are having or something else?
