**URGENT NEWS ABOUT OUR FORUM**

Thanks for the update, HH!

No wonder I had trouble logging in...Kept getting that my login or password was incorrect....I have them both saved in Google and written down but they didn't let me in and I got locked out and now am in the process of changing my password.

Well I tried to transfer the posting for the race....BUT IT HAS ALOT OF STRANGE THINGS ON IT :s_dunno :s_dunno

The new site has icons that I now nothing about or how to use....... :s_cry I tried everything to erase some of the posting but it is all Greek to me... :s_crazy


So this forum is going to quit.....and Tapa is picking us up?? This is crazy...

If you get to a specific problem or question, let me know and we'll see if we can figure it out. Alan - I got a reply - "It's a common problem, I suspect it's mostly DNS cache lag combined with the caching thing Tapatalk uses to handle traffic."
Just keep trying and see if you can get thru to the site, is about all I can suggest.

Shows several ways around it. It's a case of one server not playing nice with another. Probably nothing to do with Alan's computer.
Early this year, our site lost the program (LiveFyre) that we used for Comments and Forum. We replaced it with the recommended program, Disqus. They didn't do anything for us. They gave us a code, which worked... sort of. I had to go through every comment segment on every article from 2015 through this past winter and enter that code individually. Your deal sounds better. I've also given the new one a cursory glance and I see a couple of things I hate to see... $$ and "Upgrade." I don't know what or "if" you had to pay for this one, but those words always scare me. My guess is, we'll be given the barest minimum of "services" and everything else is gonna cost. JMHO, you understand.

Patty - After starting with the free forum version from prophpbb and getting it working, I bought our personalized domain name from Google domains for 5 years. I then bought the Premium upgrade from prophpbb ($49/year) which got me a specific set of features:


Your users can upload photos and attachments within your forum
Unlock sending mass PMs to users or usergroups
Remove any and all advertisements from your forum
Display your own advertisements in the header, footer, and after the first post in every topic
Get 10,000 characters in the footer code area instead of 2,000
Never have your forum removed for inactivity
No rules requiring publicly viewable content, can show all or none of your forum to guests.
Change the copyright message at the bottom of your forum
Earn some amazing karma knowing that you're helping to support our service!

(Not listed on that old page is the ability to backup & restore your forum database, at will. This was most commonly used by forum administrators who wanted to move to a different host service and needed a copy of their forum database files. Naturally, Tapatalk quickly killed that feature.)

With the migration to Tapatalk, I have no idea (until they reply on the support forum) which, if any, of these features Tapatalk will pick up and honor. It appears the only thing Tapatalk offers is a branded app starting at $10/month (no thank you).

HH....if it is more money they want to keep us here, I am willing to chip in....I tried for an hour to find out what their icons will do....I did get it to change color, but that is it....A lot of it is putting things in columns, which really we don't use...I don't know?!? I am so sorry this has happened, I don't know how you do it.... :s_dunno Let me know how I can help...

Annalee - There is no option, at any price, to "keep us here." Sorry! Other, more experienced users, seem willing to help in the General Discussions & Support section.

I'm sorry this is becoming such a pain. I hope it doesn't scare people off once the forum is migrated.

Money is not the issue. "Change" is the issue. Change is always hard.

Tapatalk's business model is primarily a mobile app that quickly links users to thousands of individual forums. Prophpbb is just one of many forum service providers who have turned over, or are in the process of turning their forum hosting over to Tapatalk.

Do you know if they have any explanation of how and what the icons represent ...... I can copy and paste about anything but it's hard for this old dog to learn new tricks :s_biggrin ......It would really help... :s_crazy
