NASCAR Admits Error In Uncontrolled Tire Call

Upon further review after the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, NASCAR admits that they should have penalized Kevin Harvick on the final pit stop of the race for an uncontrolled tire.

During the final pit stop of the race, the right rear tire of the No. 4 car exited the pit stall and onto the pit lane. Per the NASCAR rule book, the tire must stay within arm’s reach and in the same direction of the person carrying the tire.

Scott Miller, vice president of competition for NASCAR, admitted that the sanctioning body missed the call.

“It was a judgement call, and after conducting a post-race review of the incident an uncontrolled tire penalty for the 4 car would have been correct. We missed that call,” Miller stated.

The statement comes after an outcry by many for clarification after NASCAR called the same penalty for Ryan Blaney earlier in the race. NASCAR has yet to confirm which tire triggered the violation for Blaney.
