Southern California had heavy rains on Thursday leading to flooding in certain areas. While that is no issue for the NASCAR activities, what is coming on Sunday will be. Saturday for the heats and practice sessions for the Mexico and Cup Series will more than likely be unaffected.
A report from KTLA, referencing the National Weather Service says that the area is expected to get an “unprecedented amount of rain.”
“With the ground already saturated from today’s rains, [the] onset of dangerous flash flooding will be much quicker with this next event and everyone, especially those near or in south facing mountain [communities], needs to start preparing now for possible evacuations during or even before the storm hits,” NWS warned on Thursday.
NASCAR is prepared to stay in Los Angeles for a day or two. If that is what it takes to get the Busch Light Clash finished, that is what will happen. The only issue is Monday could be worse than Sunday. So, then you’re looking at a Tuesday start date, and that’s tough.
Most people wouldn’t mind being stuck in Los Angeles for an extended stay. However, the weather isn’t exactly the sunny California everyone expects.

NASCAR will likely wait and see what happens on Sunday. There will need to be a couple of hours of no rain for the Cup Series race to happen. That includes drying the track and getting to at least halfway in the race, making it official.
The season just wouldn’t be the same without rain. Last year we had a lot of weekends disrupted due to weather. So, why not start 2024 with an “unprecedented” amount of rain? Think back to the record-breaking rainfall in Chicago last year for the street race.
The NASCAR season is 38 weeks long. There are going to be rainy weekends and wild weather. However, if we get the same amount of delays as last season, it will be incredibly frustrating.
When you race in Los Angeles, part of the appeal is the weather. It is the scenery and ambiance. A rainy or cloudy sky over the LA Coliseum just isn’t the same as a low, glowing sunset or a clear night.
This weekend, the Busch Light Clash will go green at 8:00 PM EST on Fox. That is, if everything goes according to schedule. Hope for the best, prepare for Tuesday.
