Mr. and Mrs. HH, I hope you are competent swimmers. I once went to the beach and decided I didn't want to bob up and down in the surf. I swam way past the breakers. Next thing I knew, my ex had called-out the Coast Guard!
I hope no entity has to rescue y'all. PS: I swam 2 miles that day!

Rising water isn't a concern where we are. It's the wind.

From 8pm tonight to 8am Monday morning will be the worst for us. The eye is still heading pretty much straight at us.

I have a cousin attending South Florida University in Tampa and they told all students that they are on their own to figure out what to do about evacuating, but they could not stay at the university. I am sorry, but with the amount of money students pay each year for tuition and classes, this is kind of callus on the part of the university. My aunt and uncle are way beyond ticked as rightfully they should be. My other cousins from up here in Maine offered their inland summer home in Florida that is a two story tall condo built out of concrete, they made available to them and some of their friends who were in need of it. He asked his grounds keeper to pick up as many of the students as possible and bring them to the condo. He is allowing the grounds keeper and his family to also hunker down there as well.

With this hurricane, like almost all others, it is the western side you have to worry about as it is that side that causes the most damage. It has the most torrential rains and strongest winds, however the worst of the storm serge is on the eastern side of the hurricane and yes there is some on the western side as well, but it is far worse on the eastern side.

I can only tell you what happened with my cousin and what I know happened with her and several of her friends. They were not living in sororities, they were living in dorms.

We survived the night. Power went out about 11pm so we all went to bed with wind and rain pounding. Waiting for first light to look around. Driving curfew so not going anywhere soon.

Is the site server in Flori' dua?
About 7:30 last night, I wasn't able to bring the site up for a couple of hours.
But it was back up early this morning.

Yes, the site server is in Orlando. Ashley uses the same server company (HostDime) that our last host (prophpBB) used. I noticed the outage last night, too. Could have been circuits in and out of Orlando.

We got power back about 8:15am this morning. Life is returning to normal. One gas station within miles that had gas and the power to pump it. Filled up my Chevy Blazer. Grocery store was open but many shelves were bare. Bought a few essentials. Had to throw out just about everything that was in the refrigerator.
