You would have never made it through....I have never seen so many trees down, there are still 135 thousand without power...I feel very fortunate...We were the hardest hit in NC.... :s_omg Usually the Blue Ridge Mountains protects us from weather...but not ice....it just stalled :s_crazy

I miss Jr
I miss Smoke
I miss Jeff
I miss DW
I miss Dale
I miss Cale and Bennie and Harry and Buddy and Richard and the personalities that kept Nascar bubbling on and off the track
I miss the helmet throwing, paint swapping, trash talking bunch that took it from clay to asphalt...

I lived through the ice storm of 98 where it left millions in the dark. The wife and I were without power for a week. My in-laws were without power for two weeks and I had friends in central Maine who were without power for more than a month. That was twenty one years ago last week

In 2008 Hurricane Irene hit Northern New England causing billions in damage, most of it in Vermont where a lot of my family lives.

That hurricane destroyed homes, roads, and in many cases rerouted rivers around the state. In some cases it gave waterfront property to homes that never had it before and some became their own private island where there was no island before and yet others were completely washed away. It has taken several years to rebuild the state. There were National Guard units and utility companies from many states that came to rebuild the roads and bridges.

Beav, you could skate in place on that thing! I can roller skate but, ice skating is tough on the ankles. I did it once.
I survived our ice storm of Feb. 1979. It was a freezing rain event. I can recall being on the patio watching the sky light-up with a purple glow every time a transformer blew. In between the transformer explosions you could hear the loud pops as treelimbs broke under the weight of the ice. Our power wasn't restored for a week! That's OK, we had just installed a woodstove the previous fall. Mamma was raised in a house heated by a woodstove and knew how to cook on one.
