Forum Outage June 10

Post by Admin1 »

From Envesko last evening:

Our upstream internet provider has confirmed a fibre network cable was cut in the area causing the outage to several datacenters in the Kansas City area.

We have not been provided with an ETA for restoration, however, fibre technicians are on site actively working on resolving the connection.

We can confirm that the server remains online and as soon as network access is restored, all servers will restore immediately. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Service was restored sometime over night.

Additional information from Envesko this morning:

We are writing to you today to provide an update on the outage that occurred last evening. During some construction in North Kansas City, an accident caused widespread internet outages to the city due to a fiber cut. This outage began at approximately 5:50pm Eastern and the cut was repaired along with service restoration shortly after 1am Eastern. Alerts were received at 5:52pm by myself and our upstream providers of the outage. I was able to confirm with the datacenter team that power was not lost at the facility and their network devices were not compromised, so resources were deployed further upstream to find the root cause and provide a resolution.

The source of the problem was acknowledged by KC Fiber/LinkCity (the fiber ring provider) shortly before 9pm Eastern in which they assured our teams and neighbours that any available resources were being used to repair the cut fiber and that technicians were already on site assessing and resolving the issue. Fiber cuts are difficult in nature to repair, however, we were excited to see the team at KC Fiber and LinkCity were able to resolve the issue within 4 hours of identifying the problem and deploying resources. We are working with them and our datacenter team diligently to prevent future recurrence of this rare style of outage.
